For over 30 years Mid Suffolk Axis has provided friendship and support to adults with physical and/or sensory disabilities. We are a daytime club with a regular and stimulating timetable of activities and excursions, including arts and crafts, music and movement, and outings.
As one of the few charities in Suffolk to accept adults with a physical and/or sensory disability, Axis provides a much needed service and our members travel from far and wide to reach us.
Our determination to help as many people as possible has been a major contributor toward our greatest strength: the club’s atmosphere. We have members in their 30s, 50s and 70s, all with a variety of backgrounds: including teaching, finance and floristry. The club is full of characters and we are always having a laugh.
During a usual session members have a cup of tea and catch up with their friends, take part in the day’s activity and enjoy a freshly prepared home cooked meal, from our very own trained chef. We also take part in annual excursions including our Christmas shopping trip and summer visit to Sizewell, as well as regular outings and mystery tours.
Members have an active say in the running of their club. Contribution is easy and effective: members raise and discuss items and then present them to the Executive Committee. There are also open and closed channels for members to provide feedback regarding the service: these are available at any time and help us ensure the highest levels of member satisfaction.
As an expanding organisation we are always keen to welcome new members and continue our mission to support as many adults with physical/sensory disabilities as possible. So if you are interested in joining a friendly and vibrant club, please contact us today to arrange a home-visit with our manager.
Similarly, if you are interested in becoming involved with the club, whether as a volunteer or Trustee, activity leader or mystery tour host, we are always looking to welcome new members into the Axis family.
All Axis sessions run from 9 30am – 2 30pm. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we are at Kerrison, and on Fridays we are at the Hillside Community Centre in Stowmarket. Members can attend as many sessions as they like and transport can be arranged if required.
